ASSISTED LIVING AT THE FITZGERALD

Designed to respond to the needs of those who require extra help with select daily activities, our Assisted Living program encourages independence while allowing residents to comfortably age in place in the home they love, remaining close to the friends, neighbors and associates they’ve met over the years. Both pre-admission and on an ongoing basis, we determine each resident’s level of care and discuss any proposed adjustments to care levels with residents and their families in advance.

ASSISTED LIVING RESIDENCES

Assisted Living residences offer the same upscale features found in independent living, along with large windows that allow for plenty of natural sunshine and picturesque views. Whether a studio or one bedroom, each residence has a full kitchen with soft-close cabinetry and stainless steel appliances, as well as beautifully appointed bathrooms with high-end fixtures, teak shower seats and a full-size washer and dryer.

JUST-FOR-YOU AMENITIES

While Assisted Living residents are welcome to venture throughout The Fitzgerald and its many public spaces, many find comfort in the fact that Assisted Living has its own dedicated amenities, including:

  • District, an exclusive dining room with multiple menu selections and everyday entrees three times daily
  • Private dining room for intimate dinners and celebrations
  • A well-appointed library and activity space
  • Living room for impromptu gatherings with other residents

When is the right time to consider assisted living?

There’s rarely a single, definitive sign that it’s time to transition to assisted living. Instead, it’s often a combination of factors that point to the need for additional support. Experts recommend reviewing assisted living checklists, and if you answer “yes” to three or more questions, it might be time to explore this option.

Here are common indicators that assisted living might be the right choice:

  • Frequent falls or unexplained injuries
  • Wandering or getting lost
  • Difficulty managing medications
  • Unsafe home environment
  • Poor personal hygiene or noticeable changes in appearance
  • Challenges with daily activities like dressing, bathing, or eating
  • Worsening chronic health conditions
  • Longer recovery times from illnesses or injuries
  • Increasing isolation or withdrawal from social activities
  • Signs of depression or unhappiness
  • Struggles with maintaining the home or managing finances

Addressing these concerns proactively can ensure your loved one receives the care and support they need to thrive in a safe and engaging environment. Consulting healthcare professionals and involving your loved one in the decision-making process, whenever possible, can also help guide this important transition.

How should I discuss assisted living or memory care with my parents?

Talking about assisted living or memory care with your parents can be a delicate conversation that requires thoughtfulness and understanding. Here are some key strategies to navigate this important discussion:

  • Start early: Begin the conversation well before a crisis arises to allow for thoughtful planning and consideration.
  • Be empathetic: Acknowledge their emotions, fears, and concerns with patience and compassion.
  • Highlight the benefits: Frame the transition as a way to enhance their lifestyle, offering support and opportunities rather than a loss of independence.
  • Involve them in decisions: Whenever possible, ensure they feel heard and included in the decision-making process.
  • Keep the dialogue open: This is not a one-time conversation—remain available to address concerns and revisit the topic as needed.

Approaching the discussion with care and respect can help foster understanding and make the transition smoother for everyone involved.
